WALL STREET REJOICES AS MAIN STREET CRIES ~ WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

While the Wall Street bought Republicans and Democrats continue their Kabuki theater over the debt ceiling foolishness in Washington. Main Street continues to darken as over 25 million Americans are either unemployed, underemployed or have dropped out of the labor force in a politically unacknowledged depression where one in 46 homes are in foreclosure: Allen L Roland

According to Newsweek, close to 20 percent of all American men between the ages of 25 and 54 do not have a job at the moment and this fact is continually ignored by the Obama administration as well as Congress. On top of that, the housing market is still depressed after home prices began to tumble in 2007 and now over 11 million homes in American are vacant and one out of every 46 homes is in foreclosure.

As Paul Krugman, NY Times wrote on July 21 (The Lesser Depression) ~ “The disappearance of unemployment from elite policy discourse and its replacement by deficit panic has been truly remarkable. It’s not a response to public opinion. In a recent CBS News/New York Times poll, 53 percent of the public named the economy and jobs as the most important problem we face, while only 7 percent named the deficit. Nor is it a response to market pressure. Interest rates on U.S. debt remain near historic lows.”

And as Paul Craig Roberts writes: "The US economy is driven by consumer demand, but with 22.3% unemployment, stagnant and declining wages and salaries, and consumer debt burdens so high that consumers cannot borrow to spend, there is nothing to drive the economy.

This is the best graphic I've seen regarding unemployment in the United States ~ and this doesn’t even include the underemployed or those have dropped out of the labor force which would make it over 16% ~ or over 20% if you factor in youth who are unable to enter the workforce or those job holders who have taken early retirement. Watch this shocking 30 second geographic graphic of a recession becoming a depression ~ county by county from January 2007 to February 2011. Click here ~
http://www.latoyaegwuekwe.com/geographyofarecession.html

Mind boggling isn’t it ~ when you graphically see where we REALLY are pursuant to unemployment. Let’s make it clear ~ we are not in a recovery ( as Ben Bernanke obliviously states ) or a “painfully slow“ recovery ( as President Obama often says ) Try telling that to the close to 100 million Americans who are effectively caught in poverty (using far more realistic measures than the government does) or the 6.5 million households with mortgages that are delinquent or in foreclosure ~ or the millions of Seniors whose monthly Social Security check has become their only means of economic survival.

Government figures show the economy grew at a weak pace of 1.3% in the second quarter and a revised 0.4% pace in the first quarter ~ confirming a stagnating recession which is rapidly becoming a depression. Economist Justin Wolfers of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Economics correctly said he thinks there’s a 40% chance the economy has already been in a major recession for the past four months ~ a fact the current administration still refuses to acknowledge with a national election fast approaching.

It appears the Obama administration, like the Bush administration, is still committed to bailing out Wall Street in a vain attempt to re-inflate the same credit/debt bubble that burst in 2008 ~ but most Americans have barely enough money to survive and are crushed with personal debt.

Sy Harding , StreetSmartPost, summed up yesterday how Washington still fiddles while the economy continues to burn ~ “While media focus has been almost entirely on the short-term debt ceiling foolishness in Washington, not much attention has been paid to the more serious worsening of the six-month recessionary trend in the economy…The consensus forecast of economists and the Fed was that under the influence of QE2 stimulus, growth would improve to 3.5% in the March quarter and for the rest of the year, with the economy’s underpinnings improving so it could stand on its own when QE2 expired in June. Instead, March quarter GDP growth declined to only 1.9%. Economists and the Fed were sure that was only temporary and left their forecasts for the June quarter and rest of the year at 3.2% growth. Continuing negative economic reports in May and June forced them to scramble to lower their June quarter growth forecasts dramatically, to 2.8%, 2.6%, 2.0%, and finally to 1.8%....Meanwhile, small businesses account for most of the jobs in the U.S., and the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) reported last week that its Small-Business Optimism Index dropped in June for the fourth straight month, and “is solidly in recession territory.” That does not bode well for an improvement in the jobs picture going forward.”

Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/while-washington-fiddled-the-economy-burned-2011-7#ixzz1TWYEXX00

So as Washington continues its kabuki theater regarding the debt ceiling crisis ~ Sy reminds us that raising the debt ceiling will not change what is already happening in the economy and will most likely will worsen a deteriorating economy ~ “An agreement to raise the debt ceiling would likely include long-term government spending cuts, basically a withdrawal of the stimulus that a high level of government spending has been providing to the economy. And failure to raise the debt limit would create serious problems for the U.S. in global financial markets, and raise interest rates in the U.S. ~ both of which would be serious additional negatives for the economy.”

It’s time to face reality and finally get beyond the lies and misinformation that caused and perpetuate our current economic crisis by recognizing that we are in a deepening recession, we’re broke and millions of Americans want truthful answers and jobs ~ not lies, hype and theater.

Congress is now on a path to do exactly what the American people don't want. Americans want shared sacrifice in deficit reduction. Congress is on track to give them the exact opposite: major cuts in the most important programs that the middle class needs and wants, and no sacrifice from the wealthy and the powerful. Is it any wonder, therefore, that the American people are so angry with what's going on in Washington? I am too: Senator Bernie Sanders / Vermont

And I am too, are you?

DEATH OF THE DOLLAR

The handwriting is on the wall and yet no one, from capitol hill to Wall Street, apparently wants to talk about it. The dollar’s demise, however, is visible to the informed and knowledgeable for its death is eventually inevitable: Allen L Roland

First some history ~ The dollar became the world's reserve currency when President Nixon abandoned the gold standard in the 1970's. The dollar is used for 43% of all cross-border transactions, and 63% of the world's central bank foreign currency reserves are in dollars. The next most popular currency? The euro, which comprises only 30% of reserves. Although it is increasing rapidly, it is still less than half the amount held in dollars.

With that said, there are troubling signs for the dollar ~ On Thanksgiving eve the English language China Daily and People’s Daily Online reported that Russia and China have concluded an agreement to abandon the use of the US dollar in their bilateral trade and to use their own currencies in its place. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article26936.htm

Chalmers Johnson has stated that if Saudi Arabia decided to be paid for its oil in Euros instead of dollars ~ the stock market would collapse. The crisis of the dollar is obviously a reflection of a deeply, perhaps terminally, ill American economy that is virtually supported by a voracious Military / Industrial complex and an unsustainable debt structure.

Leading economic trends forecaster Gerald Celente feels the crisis of the dollar is irreversible ~ “ If the dollar collapses, it would spell economic disaster not just for the United States, but for the world ... It is more than just the demise of the dollar ~ this is going to be felt worldwide. There’s a major financial crisis ahead. The United States, the world’s superpower, is failing on its most basic level”

And the reason for the future demise of the American currency, Celente says is the disproportionate financial system: “We can’t print money out of thin air, backed by nothing and producing practically nothing.”

So what would it look like if the dollar collapsed?

A dollar collapse is when the value of the dollar falls so fast that all those who hold dollars panic, and sell them at any cost. In this scenario, sellers would include: numerous foreign governments who hold U.S. Treasuries, traders in exchange rate futures who trade the dollar versus other currencies, and most certainly individual investors who demand assets denominated in anything other than dollars ~ such as gold and silver.

Here’s a hypothetical look at how the collapse of the US dollar may affect the world. 7 minute video ~ The Day The Dollar Died

THE LAST BUBBLE IS ABOUT TO BURST

Here's the World collapse explained in three minutes ~ and then read on about the last bubble that is about to burst . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOzR3UAyXao&feature=player_embedded

The last economic bubble is about to burst and that bubble is the stimulus bubble where countries, not just banks and states, face the reality of their enormous world wide debts and economically collapse while interest rates soar and an ongoing world wide depression emerges from hiding: Allen L Roland

As President Obama pretends to end a war and occupation of Iraq ~ where currently 50,000 soldiers ( all still on combat pay ) are stationed as well as 18,000 mercenaries, and 84,000 support contractors ( not counting the State Department's unprecedented step of fielding its own private military force ) ~ and all living in permanent military bases scattered throughout this illegally occupied country along with the world's largest Embassy ~ let's look at the economic consequences of this military folly.

Despite the song and dance efforts of Ben Bernanke and President Obama to reassure Americans that we are still on the rocky road to recovery ~ the hard reality is that any recovery has been artificially driven and we are actually on the edge of the greatest financial crisis we will ever experience ~ but this time it will be a world wide crisis and depression.

Expect the greatest stock market sucker rally of all time between now and election day on November 4th as every effort will be made to put a good face on our dire economic picture ~ and President Obama has become a master of this ongoing deception.

Think of Wall Street as a giant casino with over 70% of the action High Frequency Trades between the too big to fail banking trading houses. It's Big Table Baccaret where only the big boys play and the small investor doesn't have a chance. As such, it's in Wall Street's ( and the Obama administration's ) best interest to continue the perception of recovery even though it's based on wishful thinking.

The stage has been set and it's now just a matter of time before we collapse from this massive overdose of debt. Obama and Wall Street will do everything in their power to hide this reality before the mid term election ~ but the die is cast and its color is RED.

Here is a must watch ABC Australia Video Documentary appropriately entitled OVERDOSE which simply illustrates in three 15 minute segments how we got here and where we are going. Pass it on because you'll never see it on the mainstream media. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article26264.htm

Wall Street To Obama / Good Work, Buddy

WALL STREET TO OBAMA / GOOD WORK, BUDDY

I've always believed that satire or parody is sometimes the best medium to illuminate the truth and Obama's current finance reform package begs for a ride on that wagon : Allen L Roland
The House and Senate are expected to vote on the final sleight of hand version of the highly suspect "financial reform" bill ( HR 4173 ) this week ~ which is really a victory for Wall Street who obviously have powerful friends in both houses of Congress as well as a friend at the White House. For example, top US banks could be given until 2022 to comply with the so-called Volcker rule, which is supposed to restrict financial institutions' riskier trading activities.

Meanwhile, "Fifty-five percent of Americans in the labor force have experienced a job loss, a pay cut, or a reduction in hours since the onset of the Great Recession in 2007," a new survey finds. Personal debt is at an all time high as Main Street struggles to survive.

The federal debt will represent 62 percent of the nation's economy by the end of this year, the highest percentage since just after World War II, according to a long-term budget outlook the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released yesterday.
Let's make it simple ~
The financial debt crisis was caused by these three principle factors ~
1.The Federal Reserve keeping interest rates artificially low.
2. The Federal Reserve inflating the money supply to satisfy Congress's deficit spending.
3. Government policies encouraging or forcing financial institutions to issue credit to undeserving people
Together, those policies caused the sub-prime mortgage crisis and the easy money debt bubble. The result was our current deepening Depression ~ masked as a Recession.
The toothless Obama-Dodd-Frank bill does nothing to address these debt problems ~ and instead insures the appearance of another mad money debt bubble which benefits only Wall Street.
In the spirit of gratitude, Wall Street has sent a letter to President Obama and his Congressional friends ~ courtesy of Dean Baker / Truthout.
http://www.truth-out.org/wall-street-congratulates-washington-a-job-well-done60845
Dear President Obama and Congressional friends,
We want you know how much we value the support of the leadership of both political parties in your efforts to ensure that we did not suffer from the crisis that we ourselves created. As you recall, back in the fall of 2008, our banks were flat on their backs. If you had not rushed to our rescue with trillions of dollars in loans and guarantees from the Fed and the Treasury at a time where no sane investor would talk to us, most of us would be among the unemployed today. Instead, our banks are hugely profitable and we're happy to say that bonuses are again hitting record highs.
While this is the sort of support that we expect in exchange for our generous campaign contributions, we are especially impressed how you have managed to so effectively blunt any backlash from the public. After all, with the unemployment rate still near double-digit levels, millions of people facing the loss of their homes and tens of millions seeing their savings wiped out, there is naturally considerable anger. However, you have managed to deftly deal with this problem by diverting their attention elsewhere.
Instead of people being angry at us for the billions that we are pocketing while the economy is still in the tank, you have managed to make scapegoats out of the unemployed. At a time when there are five unemployed workers for every job opening, you have been able to whip up public resentment over unemployment benefits that average $300 a week (a few minutes' pay for us ~ chuckle ). This is truly skillful politics.
We were also impressed to see that you are taking steps to have the government punish people who default on their mortgage loans to us. Just because we are enormously rich and have huge banks doesn't mean that we know what we are doing when we issue a mortgage. We didn't think about things like the housing bubble when we issued a lot of those mortgages back in the boom. As a result, we lost a lot of money. We stand to lose even more if people keep defaulting - even when they are able to pay back our loans (sometimes referred to as a "strategic default").
Therefore, we appreciate your actions to have the government punish borrowers who default. By telling defaulters that they will not be able to have future mortgages insured by the Department of Housing and Urban Development or purchased by Fannie Mae, you are helping us squeeze more money out of these homeowners. This must be especially difficult since we know how much pressure there is on many of you to actually be helping the homeowners. But you folks have had the courage to stand with us even as foreclosures are continuing at a near record pace. We appreciate this.
And now, you have decided to put cuts to Social Security at the center of your agenda. This really takes courage. Here is a program that people have paid for with their taxes. This tax will be sufficient to fully fund benefits for the next 33 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office, and even after that date it could indefinitely pay more than 70 percent of scheduled benefits, assuming no changes are ever made to the program. This means that current and near retirees have already paid for their Social Security benefits.
But you're going to cut Social Security benefits anyhow. And this is even after the collapse of the housing bubble and the resulting downturn wiped out most of the housing equity of the baby boomers and much of the value of their 401(k)s. Frankly, under the circumstances, we wouldn't have been surprised if you were talking about increasing Social Security benefits. But, we're absolutely delighted to see you moving forward with plans for cuts. This will mean that we won't have to be taxed to repay the bonds held by the trust fund.
And, of course, there is the financial reform bill. You killed any plans to break up too big to fail banks (leaving us with huge government subsidies) and kept any talk of a financial speculations tax from being taken seriously.
Keep up the great work; we'll remember you at campaign contribution time.
Best wishes,
Your Buddies ~ The Wall Street CEOs
To top this all off ~ The Democrats have just dropped the $19 billion dollar assessment on large banks and hedge funds, to pay the administrative costs of the legislation ~ in order to appease Republicans and blue dog Democrats and ensure passage of this disgraceful sellout to Wall Street.

If you're not angry, you're on life support.

European Debt Crisis Deepens / Class War Accelerates

EUROPEAN DEBT CRISIS DEEPENS / CLASS WAR ACCELERATES

[ click on picture to enlarge ]

The European debt crisis is, in reality, a rapidly accelerating world wide class war and shell game where the rich and powerful want the people to repay their worthless debts as they did in the United States: Allen L Roland

Ever get the feeling that the International Debt crisis is a giant worldwide shell game and that Goldman Sachs is right in the middle of it ~ if not manipulating it through its derivative trading shemes.

Watch this must watch two minute video as John Clarke and Bryan Dawe calculate the cost of the European debt crisis and the ominous word BAILOUT surfaces ~ since all the principals are virtually broke as is the debt ridden United States. http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article25521.htm

John Pilger gets a handle on the Greece situation and calls it a a microcosm of a modern class war whereas, as in America and England, ordinary people have been told they must repay the debts of the rich and powerful who incurred them.

Pilger blames Greece's financial meltdown on " The right-wing government of Kostas Karamanlis that preceded the present Pasok (Labour) government of George Papandreou was described by the sociologist Jean Ziegler as "a machine for systematically pillaging the country's resources".

( Just like the right wing Cheney/Bush administration which brought down our financial house ~ and with the same friends ).

Pilger elaborates ~ "The machine had infamous friends. The US Federal Reserve board is investigating the role of Goldman Sachs, which gambled on the bankruptcy of Greece as public assets were sold off and its tax-evading rich deposited €360bn in Swiss banks. This haemorrhaging of capital continues with the approval of Europe's central banks and governments... At 11 per cent, Greece's budget deficit is no higher than America's. However, when the Papandreou government tried to borrow on the international capital market, it was effectively blocked by the US corporate ratings agencies, which "downgraded" Greek debt to "junk". These same agencies gave triple-A ratings to billions of dollars in so-called sub-prime mortgage securities and so precipitated the economic collapse in 2008... In the US, the situation is even more remarkable. As the investigative journalist David DeGraw has reported, the principal Wall Street banks that "destroyed the economy pay zero in taxes and get $33bn in refunds".... In Greece, as in America and Britain, the ordinary people have been told they must repay the debts of the rich and powerful who incurred them. Jobs, pensions and public services are to be slashed and burned, with privateers put in charge."
http://www.newstatesman.com/uk-politics/2010/05/greece-pilger-britain-imf

As Ron Holland writes the Greek Tragedy Is Just a Sneak Preview of What's Coming to Washington ~ " We are now living through the violent end of the age of fiat paper money and thoughtless government debt ... Washington's debt load is far greater than the burden that is now crushing the governments of Greece and the other PIIGS countries. The dollar's current strength will prove transient. Eventually the sovereign debt crisis will also come to the U.K. And then to the U.S., with disastrous results. The tragedy in Greece today is just a glimpse of what will happen to the sovereign debt of the United States. It will come to America, and it will come on its own schedule, so be prepared. "
http://www.businessinsider.com/the-greek-tragedy-is-just-a-sneak-preview-of-whats-coming-to-washington-2010-5

Don't think Wall Street is not aware of this ominous debt tsunami heading for our shores, along with BP's poisonous underwater Oil Gusher, which explains the latest volatile stock market performance. The big boy's are getting out while encouraging the little guys to go long.

Truthdig's Chris Hedges points out correctly how the Greek masses have responded to the banking elite austerity bailout for themselves ~ "They know what to do when they are told their pensions, benefits and jobs have to be cut to pay corporate banks, which screwed them in the first place. Call a general strike. Riot. Shut down the city centers. Toss the bastards out. Do not be afraid of the language of class warfare-the rich versus the poor, the oligarchs versus the citizens, the capitalists versus the proletariat. The Greeks, unlike most of us, get it."
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/the_greeks_get_it_20100524/

Some guy's don't know when to quit spending and we'll soon join Greece on the bar room floor when the full extent of our world wide indebtedness becomes common knowledge.

Goldman Rules / Obama Obeys

GOLDMAN RULES/ OBAMA OBEYS

Goldman Sachs rules Wall Street, its alumni permeate the Obama administration, its derivative liability equals over 33% of its assets and Obama continues to subsidize it with zero interest fed loans with no real reform in sight: Allen L Roland

The latest data on derivatives is truly impressive ~ JPMorgan Chase, for example, held derivatives worth 6,072 percent of its assets at the peak of the bubble in 2007. The other two giants, Citigroup and Bank of America, although still far behind Chase, had 2,022 percent and 2,486 percent respectively. Goldman Sachs, the other giant, had an astonishing amount of derivatives on its balance sheets: 25,284 percent of assets in 2008 and 33,823 percent as of June 2009. Citigroup and BOA now have more of this risk on their books than before the crisis (FDIC SDI database).
"This simply adds to the point that despite all the histrionics and efforts in Washington, nothing has been learned and the American Banking system is now at least at as much risk now as in 2007, pre crash." http://thebankwatch.com/2010/03/11/goldman-sachs-derivative-liability-33823-of-assets/

Obviously, Goldman Sachs still rules Wall Street with what Michael Lewis calls 'An elegant form of theft ' while being subsidized by the Fed with zero percent interest loans despite the fact that Wall Street is still sitting on over 1.5 trillion dollars in junk sub prime loans. Goldman was also the number one financial contributor to the Obama presidential run and his administration is stocked with Goldman alumni ~ so when Goldman speaks, Obama indeed listens and obeys. But we are talking about potential criminal violations regarding Goldman which cannot be ignored or swept under the rug. Senator Ted Kaufman appears to be hot on the trail of Goldman and rightfully says ' that Fraud is still at the heart of Wall Street.'

Baseline Scenario's Simon Johnson sees Sen. Ted Kaufman pursuit of criminal violations more promising than Dodd bill: "...he actually lays out the parameters of what should be, if our legal institutions still functioned, a compelling case against Goldman ... This sounds like a potential violation of Rule 10b-5 - you are simply not allowed to sell securities in the United States while withholding material adverse information ... [Kaufman] he is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and we are discussing here potential crimes..."

http://baselinescenario.com/2010/03/15/senator-kaufman-fraud-still-at-the-heart-of-wall-street/

If you didn't watch the Steve Croft 60 minutes interview of Michael Lewis, author of the Big Short, on Sunday night ~ here it is. Lewis explains how the big banks rule the rating agencies and how Goldman is the biggest ruler of them all ~ bullying AIG to insure billions of dollars of worthless sub prime mortgages which they obviously knew were junk and then cashing in when they collapsed in 2007 and then collecting again when AIG repaid them again with billions of TARP bailout money.

It's a big casino game, folks and we're not in it ~ but we are most certainly paying for this continuing financial time bomb with no real reform in sight.
