2012 / DARKNESS AND BOTTOM UP CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN

As the dark storm clouds of an economic depression and perhaps war with Iran bring down the curtain on 2011 ~ be aware that 2012 will initially bring deeper economic stress and turmoil ~ but out of that cocoon of darkness will finally emerge the change that millions of Americans voted for in 2008 and never received from a president who failed to deliver and never stopped campaigning: Allen L Roland

Make no mistake about it, 2012 has emerged from the blackness of a growing depression, which the White House still refuses to acknowledge ~ a depression that won’t be obvious until Americans are hit with a sledgehammer of reality which includes the fact that US government census figures reveal that 1 in 2 Americans have fallen into poverty or are struggling to live on low incomes.

Here’s some reality ~ The true unemployment rate is nearly 23% (according to Shadowstats.com) if it was calculated the way Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported it in 1994 and earlier. See story

http://bit.ly/ulYS7J

As Charlie McGrath, founder of Wide Awake News, explains ~ Our nation is an empire in decline and there is a reason most of us have no idea what is going on. The lame stream media has us all focusing the latest trends and people fighting over shoes, while our rights are usurped and our government involves us in ever more conflicts overseas.

We are spread way too thin and we are losing the freedoms we were supposedly fighting for.

People are going to start waking up, but NOT because CNN, FOX, or MSNBC decided to actually start informing people. They are going to wake up because they've been hit with a sledgehammer of reality...” See 7 minute video

http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/6366.html

That long overdue wake up call will also include President Obama who will realize too late that his only base is the Wall Street corporate establishment ~ which is notoriously fickle when they realize their candidate is deeply wounded.

The time for the truth and transparency is now as we creep into 2012 and the immediate start of the Presidential primaries. In that regard, a vote for Ron Paul in the primaries is a vote against the establishment and the special interest groups that have hijacked our Republic as well as both parties.

The establishment is rightly afraid if not terrified of the possibility of President Ron Paul because his platform is largely in sync with what the vast majority of Americans want and have not received under the Obama administration. The Republican right wing is in lockstep with the corporate establishment and committed to the status quo ~ and they also fear a Paul presidency.

I’ll humorously make my point by parodying the great movie about the final days of Hitler's regime, titled "Downfall", with clever subtitles. (This is the famous scene from the movie where Hitler is told that Berlin's defenses have evaporated and the Thousand Year Reich is doomed) ~ but here Hitler apparently wants to support Newt so the corporate establishment can stay in control : 4 minute video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=hgRq6s7G

Here’s some more reality regarding Obama ~ The last day of 2011 was also the last day of representative democracy in America, as Corporate Puppet President Barack Obama chose the New Year's Eve holiday to sign the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (H.R.1540) into law ~ with little if any comments from the lame stream press.

Along with signing NDAA, Obama released a Presidential Signing Statement in which he assured "Moreover, I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation."

That may sound reassuring, but it doesn't mean much. Presidential Signing Statements are political documents that have no Constitutional basis and do not modify the laws to which they refer. In these Orwellian times, Obama's empty promise that we have nothing to worry about should warn us that in fact we have plenty to worry about. It’s also is another example of the classic Obama straddle ~ where he appears to be taking a stand on principle after the bill passes and thus he doesn’t have to take responsibility for its consequences and can blame Congress if the people revolt even though he approved the bill.

As Michel Chossudovsky writes “To say that January 1st 2012 is "A Sad Day for America" is a gross understatement. The signing of NDAA (HR 1540) into law is tantamount to the militarization of law enforcement, the repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act and the Inauguration in 2012 of Police State USA.
As in Weimar Germany, fundamental rights and freedoms are repealed under the pretext that democracy is threatened and must be protected.
The NDAA is "Obama's New Year's Gift" to the American People”.

See story www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=28441

Mike Whitney correctly writes ~ “Ron Paul is the only antiwar candidate who has a (microscopic) chance of winning in 2012. He’s also the only candidate who will make an effort to restore the Bill of Rights and reverse Congress’s decision to allow the president to “indefinitely” imprison American citizens without due process. For these reasons alone, Paul should garner the support of leftists, liberals, and progressives.”

The time for the truth and transparency is now at hand as we nervously creep into 2012 ~ a vote for Ron Paul in the Iowa caucus is an important first step against the establishment and status Quo ~ as well as the special interest groups that have not only hijacked our Republic but are responsible for the Militarization of our Homeland.

As Robert Naiman, writes in Truthout: "While media may miss this story now, if election-night exit polls show antiwar Democrats and independents gave Paul the margin of victory, that story will appear in media around the world."

“Little by little, in the name of fighting terrorism, our Bill of Rights is being repealed.... The Patriot Act, as bad as its violation of the 4th Amendment, was just one step down the slippery slope. The recently passed [NDAA] continues that slip toward tyranny and in fact accelerates it significantly.... The Bill of Rights has no exemption for ‘really bad people’ or terrorists or even non-citizens. It is a key check on government power against any person. This is not a weakness in our legal system; it is the very strength of our legal system.” Congressman Ron Paul

WALL STREET REJOICES AS MAIN STREET CRIES ~ WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

While the Wall Street bought Republicans and Democrats continue their Kabuki theater over the debt ceiling foolishness in Washington. Main Street continues to darken as over 25 million Americans are either unemployed, underemployed or have dropped out of the labor force in a politically unacknowledged depression where one in 46 homes are in foreclosure: Allen L Roland

According to Newsweek, close to 20 percent of all American men between the ages of 25 and 54 do not have a job at the moment and this fact is continually ignored by the Obama administration as well as Congress. On top of that, the housing market is still depressed after home prices began to tumble in 2007 and now over 11 million homes in American are vacant and one out of every 46 homes is in foreclosure.

As Paul Krugman, NY Times wrote on July 21 (The Lesser Depression) ~ The disappearance of unemployment from elite policy discourse and its replacement by deficit panic has been truly remarkable. It’s not a response to public opinion. In a recent CBS News/New York Times poll, 53 percent of the public named the economy and jobs as the most important problem we face, while only 7 percent named the deficit. Nor is it a response to market pressure. Interest rates on U.S. debt remain near historic lows.”

And as Paul Craig Roberts writes: "The US economy is driven by consumer demand, but with 22.3% unemployment, stagnant and declining wages and salaries, and consumer debt burdens so high that consumers cannot borrow to spend, there is nothing to drive the economy.

This is the best graphic I've seen regarding unemployment in the United States ~ and this doesn’t even include the underemployed or those have dropped out of the labor force which would make it over 16% ~ or over 20% if you factor in youth who are unable to enter the workforce or those job holders who have taken early retirement. Watch this shocking 30 second geographic graphic of a recession becoming a depression ~ county by county from January 2007 to February 2011. Click here ~
http://www.latoyaegwuekwe.com/geographyofarecession.html

Mind boggling isn’t it ~ when you graphically see where we REALLY are pursuant to unemployment. Let’s make it clear ~ we are not in a recovery ( as Ben Bernanke obliviously states ) or a “painfully slow“ recovery ( as President Obama often says ) Try telling that to the close to 100 million Americans who are effectively caught in poverty (using far more realistic measures than the government does) or the 6.5 million households with mortgages that are delinquent or in foreclosure ~ or the millions of Seniors whose monthly Social Security check has become their only means of economic survival.

Government figures show the economy grew at a weak pace of 1.3% in the second quarter and a revised 0.4% pace in the first quarter ~ confirming a stagnating recession which is rapidly becoming a depression. Economist Justin Wolfers of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Economics correctly said he thinks there’s a 40% chance the economy has already been in a major recession for the past four months ~ a fact the current administration still refuses to acknowledge with a national election fast approaching.

It appears the Obama administration, like the Bush administration, is still committed to bailing out Wall Street in a vain attempt to re-inflate the same credit/debt bubble that burst in 2008 ~ but most Americans have barely enough money to survive and are crushed with personal debt.

Sy Harding , StreetSmartPost, summed up yesterday how Washington still fiddles while the economy continues to burn ~ “While media focus has been almost entirely on the short-term debt ceiling foolishness in Washington, not much attention has been paid to the more serious worsening of the six-month recessionary trend in the economy…The consensus forecast of economists and the Fed was that under the influence of QE2 stimulus, growth would improve to 3.5% in the March quarter and for the rest of the year, with the economy’s underpinnings improving so it could stand on its own when QE2 expired in June. Instead, March quarter GDP growth declined to only 1.9%. Economists and the Fed were sure that was only temporary and left their forecasts for the June quarter and rest of the year at 3.2% growth. Continuing negative economic reports in May and June forced them to scramble to lower their June quarter growth forecasts dramatically, to 2.8%, 2.6%, 2.0%, and finally to 1.8%....Meanwhile, small businesses account for most of the jobs in the U.S., and the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) reported last week that its Small-Business Optimism Index dropped in June for the fourth straight month, and “is solidly in recession territory.” That does not bode well for an improvement in the jobs picture going forward.”

Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/while-washington-fiddled-the-economy-burned-2011-7#ixzz1TWYEXX00

So as Washington continues its kabuki theater regarding the debt ceiling crisis ~ Sy reminds us that raising the debt ceiling will not change what is already happening in the economy and will most likely will worsen a deteriorating economy ~ “An agreement to raise the debt ceiling would likely include long-term government spending cuts, basically a withdrawal of the stimulus that a high level of government spending has been providing to the economy. And failure to raise the debt limit would create serious problems for the U.S. in global financial markets, and raise interest rates in the U.S. ~ both of which would be serious additional negatives for the economy.”

It’s time to face reality and finally get beyond the lies and misinformation that caused and perpetuate our current economic crisis by recognizing that we are in a deepening recession, we’re broke and millions of Americans want truthful answers and jobs ~ not lies, hype and theater.

Congress is now on a path to do exactly what the American people don't want. Americans want shared sacrifice in deficit reduction. Congress is on track to give them the exact opposite: major cuts in the most important programs that the middle class needs and wants, and no sacrifice from the wealthy and the powerful. Is it any wonder, therefore, that the American people are so angry with what's going on in Washington? I am too: Senator Bernie Sanders / Vermont

And I am too, are you?

THE BIG LIE REGARDING ECONOMIC RECOVERY

The current unemployment rate remains the worse since the great Depression and will worsen. The broader measure of unemployment is 17% ~ which includes discouraged workers who have not found a job in six months as well as part time workers who want full time work. The reported gain of 151,000 payroll jobs in October was a big lie and obviously politically motivated whereas the perception of a recovery becomes far more important than the harsh reality of a deepening depression : Allen L Roland

So much for the promise of truth and transparency with the Obama administration and nowhere is this more apparent than the recently released BLS unemployment figures.

First the truth ~ the Bureau of Labor Statistics ( BLS ) reveals that in October the number of persons jobless for a year or more rose from 645,000 in the second quarter of 2007 to 4.5 million in the second quarter of 2010. The group’s share of total unemployment jumped from 9.5 percent to a record high of 30.9 percent.

In the second quarter of 2010, the share of the labor force unemployed for a year or longer reached a record high. Men and persons aged 25 and older were somewhat overrepresented among those jobless for a year or more.

Against these bleak unemployment figures ~ we have the Obama administration announcing a gain of 151,000 payroll jobs in October as evidence of a slow economic recovery. But are these figures real or another big lie?

I’m afraid they are not real and Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration, reveals this disinformation in his recent article in ICH entitled Big Lies, Little Lies.

Excerpt: After examining the government’s report, statistician John Williams (shadowstats.com) reported that the jobs were “phantom jobs” created by “concurrent seasonal factor adjustments.” In other words, the 151,000 jobs cannot be found in the unadjusted underlying data. The jobs were the product of seasonal adjustments concocted by the BLS. As usual, the financial press did no investigation and simply reported the number handed to the media by the government.

The relevant information, the information that you need to know, is that the level of payroll employment today is below the level of 10 years ago. A smaller number of Americans are employed right now than were employed a decade ago.

As of October 2010, payroll jobs purportedly have increased by 874,000, an insufficient amount to keep up with labor force growth. However, John Williams reports that 874,000 is an overestimate of jobs as a result of the faulty “birth-death model,” which overestimates new business start-ups during recessions and underestimates business failures. Williams says that the next benchmark revision due out next February will show a reduction in current employment by almost 600,000 jobs. This assumes, of course, that the BLS does not gimmick the benchmark revision. If Williams is correct, it is more evidence that the hyped recovery is non-existent.”

Robert’s ends his article with this truth and conclusion ~ “ Another fact that is seldom, if ever, reported, is that the payroll jobs data reports the number of jobs, not the number of people with jobs. Some people hold two jobs; thus, the payroll report does not give the number of employed people.
The BLS household survey measures the number of people with jobs. The same October that reported 151,000 new payroll jobs reported, according to the household survey, a loss of 330,000 jobs. The American working class has been destroyed. The American middle class is in its final stages of destruction. Soon the bottom rungs of the rich themselves will be destroyed.”

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article26770.htm

And now we have the Fed’s recently announced $600 billion long term bond-purchasing program which is hoped will reduce interest rates enough to effect unemployment. Paul Krugman writes that Bernanke is getting the Obama treatment and also making the Obama response” in that he is facing intense right wing pressure and is already scaling back his purchase plans which almost guarantees they’ll fail. Krugman correctly points out who really pays the price for this lack of boldness ~ “ the almost 15 million unemployed American workers, half of whom have been jobless for 21 weeks or more, will pay the price, as the economic slump goes on and on.”

The first step on the path to recovery and a shift in consciousness is always the truth and transparency ~ two values that are still apparently lost on Congress as well as an Obama administration that seemingly does not trust the American people and a main stream press that parrots the same untruths.

If our leaders do not trust us with the truth than we must demand it ~ for trust is a two way street as Bruce Montague once correctly wrote ~ "Trust is a two way street. If your government does not trust you, how can you trust your government?"

OBAMANOMICS / RUNNING ON EMPTY

Let's face it, Obamanomics is all style with very little if any substance ~ to the extent that the White House has no idea of the mistrust and anger that it has generated with its misleading cheerleading of an economic recovery that is little more than a mirage: Allen L Roland

I cringe every time I hear President Obama talking about economic recovery when neither he nor any of his 'economic czars' have fully acknowledged that we are in a deepening Depression and that Obamanomics is running on empty. The Obama administration still seems unbelievably committed to a top down recovery where cash flush banks will loosen credit and the housing and credit bubble will inflate again. Guess what ~ it ain't gonna happen !

Here's what's really happening ~ Transnational corporations have made billions by moving 39% of US manufacturing offshore to boost the GDP and employment of foreign countries, such as China, while impoverishing their former American work force. Congress and the corpocracy have welcomed this as the New Global Economy ~ but it has left Main Street unemployed and over extended.

Sales of US previously owned homes plunged 27 percent in July, twice as much as forecast, which is further evidence that foreclosures and limited job growth are depressing the market.
For example, there have been 300,000 foreclosure filings every month for the past 17 months. This year, 1.9 million homes will be lost, down from 2 million last year. In July alone, 92,858 homes were repossessed. These are Depression sized numbers numbers ~ which cannot be covered up with wishful thinking or happy talk !

Let's start with the very real possibility of a permanent housing collapse.

Shamus Cooke, writes in Truthout of that possibility ~ "The recent chaos that erupted when 30,000 people waited hours in the Atlanta, Georgia, heat to receive applications for subsidized housing is a mere symptom of a worsening national problem " and she's absolutely correct.

Excerpt: " The housing market appears to be on a never-ending downward spiral, with the much-discussed "recovery" always around the next corner... The reasons that such a recovery is impossible at the moment should be obvious: millions of people do not have jobs; millions of others work only part time; millions more work full-time but make very little money; and additional millions fear losing their jobs... Under these circumstances, there can be no recovery in the housing market, which will continue to contribute to the broader depression-like economy in the US. "
http://www.truth-out.org/a-permanent-housing-collapse62505

So what we need now are truth tellers as well as concerned citizens who demand truth and transparency ~ for without those two ingredients, a legitimate economic recovery will be impossible.

Americans do not trust their political leaders, including Obama, who are obviously beholden to an out of control corpocracy and military industrial complex. Rasmussen Polls reveal " that only 23 percent of the people in this country believe today's federal government has the consent of the governed ... The major division in this country is no longer between parties but between political elites and the people," Mr. Rasmussen reports.

On that very same subject, here's a must see video of Chris Hedges' one hour talk on HOW CORPORATIONS DESTROYED AMERICAN DEMOCRACY where Hedges explains how an American empire of production became an empire of consumption and how free market capitalism and globalization have economically brought America to its knees.

Hedges uses the exploitation and demise of Michael Jackson as a metaphor for our present society of sound bites and illusions.

Hedges also explains how Bill Clinton led the Democratic Party to the corporate watering trough and how NAFTA was the knife in the heart of the U.S./ working class. It was Clinton and Summers who destroyed the Glass/Steagal Act and put the Democrats in the same bed with the Republicans and Wall Street financial elite.

Now 50 million Americans are in poverty and millions more are near poverty. The corporate state has hijacked our government and the actual unemployment rate is now closer to 20%.

Hedges correctly identifies Obama as a cheerleader for the Oligarchy and our current flight into corporate illusion and that we all must become invisible witnesses for a moral imperative for true change ~ and that no real reform or change is possible with an out of control Military/Industrial complex powered by corporate greed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRQjF1IPgKQ&feature=related

As Susan Cooke correctly states ~ " It will take a mass movement of working people to rearrange the priorities of those in power, or to put different people in power, so that the country's resources are directed to those creating the wealth, or in the most need of it "

It all starts,of course, with truth and transparency from our political leaders. We must mobilize and nonviolently demand it before the mid-term elections or we will eventually run out of fuel.

Theodore Roethke wrote ~ In a dark time, the eye begins to see ~ So let's end our cultural retreat into illusion and demand the truth from our political leaders and effectively harness the corporate state in the process.

Forty seven percent of the voters believe the Federal budget deficit is primarily due to the wars while joblessness continues to climb. The number one concern for a majority of people is the economy. It is the perfect storm for new organizing efforts to end the wars, cut military spending and rebuild our communities.

Peace Action is helping to organize a national march on Washington, October 2, One Nation Working Together. We are calling on the Obama administration and Congress to create jobs and "move the money" from wars and weapons to our communities.

Sign on, get involved and make a difference.

GOP Strategy / Dumbing Down The Dumb With Lies

GOP STRATEGY / DUMBING DOWN THE DUMB WITH LIES

The Republican Party has no platform but has the capability of shifting the blame of Bush's financial recklessness and place it squarely in Obama's hands while proclaiming themselves reformers to their dumb downed base : Allen L Roland

The wooden stake of the truth was never used to pierce the heart of the dark soul of the Cheney/Bush administration.
As such, their evil deeds of illegal preemptive war, occupation, illegal renditions, spying and torture continue to be unpunished and seemingly swept under the rug by an Obama administration ~ who has gladly adopted some of these very same abuses of power.

But the Republicans can't run away from one date and that date is 9/11/2001. No amount of Obama bashing or obscuring the facts can hide their culpability for knowingly allowing America's greatest tragedy ~ now that the glaring reality of our preemptive failures in both Iraq and Afghanistan are becoming common knowledge.

The 9/11 Pandora's treasonous horror box will be opened eventually and the Achilles' heel will be the torture induced false confessions to 9/11 ~ which were sanctioned by two of the 9/11 facilitators, VP Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. In an interview with Press TV, Philip Sands, the author of Torture Team, blamed lawyers close to former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for marginalizing international laws to sanction the torture of detainees at US-run prisons. Sands cited a memo that Rumsfeld signed on December 2, 2002 as proof of the US officials' crime. The memo sought to help the US government coerce imprisoned suspected terrorists into revealing intelligence.

It's all an elaborate Kabuki theater with the Republicans doing their so-called obstruction dance with the gutless Democrats, who have settled for piecemeal change, while Wall Street continues to raze Main street ~ and it's all based on lies !

President Obama has become a true master of deception. Obviously, Obama is fully in sync with BP and the global financial elite ~ that photo of him swimming in the oil laden Gulf with his daughter was, in actuality, not in the gulf. The official WH picture was intended to provide evidence that the region's beaches are back to normal. Yet it soon emerged that the private beach on which it was taken, in St Andrew Bay, north-west Florida, isn't technically in the gulf ~ It's a bay inside the Gulf protected by barrier islands. All of this while unexplained dead fish are piling up on the East coast as toxic Oil plumes make their way north and eventually Europe ~ where all hell will break loose.

Meanwhile, A University Study contradicts Government Estimates, and reports that up to 79% of Oil could remain ~ a group of scientists say that most of that BP oil the government claimed was gone from the Gulf of Mexico is actually still there ~ raising the possibility of another undisclosed BP gusher well.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/17/gulf-oil-spill-university_n_684343.html

But the biggest ongoing lies are the deceptive economic statistics which are seemingly propping up a deepening economic depression ~ which neither Republicans or Democrats will reveal to the American public.

Here's the truth, as revealed by Paul Craig Roberts, ICH ~ " Our government tells us that the unemployment rate is just under 10 percent, a figure that would have wrecked any post-Great Depression administration. But, again, “our government” is lying. The reported unemployment rate is just below 10% because the US government no longer, since the corrupt Clinton administration, counts Americans who have been unemployed for longer than one year. Once the unemployed hit one year and one day, they are dropped from the unemployment roles and no longer counted as unemployed.... Compare this fact with the number you read from the financial press. Right now, if measured according to the methodology of 1980, the US unemployment rate is about 22%. Thus, the reported rate of unemployment hides more than half of the unemployed."
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article26182.htm

So this deceptive political theater goes on and the Republicans are in essence saying to their dumbed down base and the American electorate ~ Why settle for Bush lite, Why not go with the real thing, We Republicans are no worse than those wimpy Democrats, We all lie, Obama lies just like Bush did, Welcome us back, We know you and love you, We will protect you, you are going to sleep ... going to sleeeeep ...
