Chalmers Johnson ( August 6, 1931 - November 20, 2010)
Take a few minutes to watch and listen to the late Chalmers Johnson condemn America’s fading empire of military bases, its evaporating status as the world’s lone superpower and its unchallenged and unconstitutional Imperial presidency, which answers only to the corpocracy ~ a society dominated politically and economically by large corporations: Allen L Roland
Take a few minutes this thanksgiving weekend, settle down in front of your computer and sip an eggnog while you watch one of America’s great minds, the late Chalmers Johnson condemn American Hegemony or quite simply, Empire Building.
Author of Blowback, The Sorrows Of Empire and Nemesis and The Last Days Of The American Empire, Chalmers Johnson has literally written the book on the concept of American Hegemony. Filmed in July of 2007 at his home in Cardiff, California, Chalmers is relaxed and expressive as he explains his previous cold war warrior days where he felt the military/Industrial complex propelled America into seeing itself as the new Rome ~ capable of conquering the world through economic and military force. He then expands on our current empire of military bases as well as the concentration of power in the Executive branch of Government ~ which answers to the military/Industrial complex which is now close to being out of control.
Chalmers then spells out how the world’s lone superpower has now become the world’s largest debtor nation and that our economic collapse is inevitable ~ saying “Things that can’t go on forever, don’t“. He uses the example that if Saudi Arabia decided to be paid for its oil in Euros instead of dollars ~ the stock market would collapse. Please note that Russia and China recently agreed to dump the dollar and trade in their own currencies ~ the handwriting is on the wall.
Chalmers points out that America is currently spending I trillion dollars a year on its military establishment which is not sustainable. His major concern however is the unchallenged authority of the executive branch and that the Pentagon and CIA are the foundations of this Imperial Presidency. He ends his dialogue talking about the failed press and public apathy while the corpocracy rules “The public is scared to death, they know we are heading over a cliff and they don’t know what to do about it … The United States today is like a cruise ship on the Niagara River upstream of the most spectacular falls in North America," Johnson warned. "A few people on board have begun to pick up a slight hiss in the background, to observe a faint haze of mist in the air on their glasses, to note that the river current seems to be running slightly faster. But no one yet seems to have realized that it is almost too late to head for shore. Like the Chinese, Ottoman, Hapsburg, imperial German, Nazi, imperial Japanese, British, French, Dutch, Portuguese, and Soviet empires in the last century, we are approaching the edge of a huge waterfall and are about to plunge over it."
