Buttressed with league castoffs ~ the San Francisco Giants won 21 out of their last 32 games, many by one torturous nerve-racking run. With the help of their incredible bullpen they have establish themselves as the team to beat in the National League Playoffs: Allen L Roland
As an avid SF Giants fan for over 40 years ~ no Giants team has created more emotional torture than the 2010 edition ~ for this team has come back from the dead so many times that I am now labeling them the Cardiac Kids.
The Giant announcers, Duane Kuiper, Dave Fleming, Mike Krukow and John Miller were the first to define this torture and soon fans could be seem wearing TORTURE on their shirts or ballpark signs ~ but I'm the first to label them The Cardiac Kids.
But make no mistake about it ~ this team that came together in pieces ~ since a third of the Giants' postseason roster was playing elsewhere during the first two months of the season ~ has a championship pitching staff that will strike fear in the hearts of the Atlanta Braves and most probably eventually ~ the Philadelphia Phillies. Note ~ The Giant's
bullpen hasn't given up an earned run in 36 innings.
Good pitching always beats good hitting and the Giants have a
3.38 ERA, the best mark in the majors in seven seasons. They were even better down the stretch, posting a 1.78 ERA in September, the fifth-best mark by any team in any month in the last 90 years.
Not only are they young and motivated but they are caught by the Gaints most valuable player ~ Buster Posey ~ a throw back to the great catchers of the past and already an outstanding field general.
"You know, people have talked a lot about things this team can't do," said coach Tim Flannery. "But one thing we have is this crazy spirit. I think (guitarist) Carlos Santana said it best - collective intangibles. That's what this club is all about."

Despite the torture ~ the Cardiac Kids have captured the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, including myself, so don't be surprised to find them in the World Series ~ but rest assured not without a few more cardiac moments of torture for their loyal fans.
