MERRY CHRISTMAS / JOHN LENNON / DONATION LETTER

Jesus was not a Christian and Buddha was not a Buddhist but their religion was love. Can it really be this simple? That the ultimate religion is love ! Perhaps we all need to see what we have settled for in order to fully realize that there is another choice versus war and injustice as well as the full meaning of Lennon's Merry Christmas ( War is Over ) which was recorded in 1971~ nine years before Lennon was shot down and killed in December, 1980: Allen L Roland, Ph.D

"An eye for an eye will make us all blind"  ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The official 4 minute video for John Lennon's 'Merry Xmas (War Is Over, if you Want It)'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN4Uu0OlmTg

A protest song against the Vietnam War, "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" has since become a Christmas standard, frequently covered by other artists, appearing on compilation albums of seasonal music, and named in many polls as a holiday favorite. With our recent revelations about torture as well as our
continuing illegal unmanned Drone strikes that are killing scores of innocent
civilians ~ the song remains appropriate. See article:
  http://readersupportednews.org/news-section2/323-95/26688-focus-americas-drones-are-still-killing-scores-of-innocents

At the beginning of the song, two whispers can be heard. Yoko whispers: "Happy Christmas, Kyoko" (Kyoko Chan Cox is Yoko's daughter with Anthony Cox) and John whispers: "Happy Christmas, Julian" (John's son with Cynthia.

But this Christmas, I offer the hope of Lennon's greatest song which is a needed reminder that the hope for a better world still remains deep in all our hearts. Sing it along with John and let it be our Christmas and New Year's wish for the world. Three minute You Tube Video:

VIETNAM WALL TURNS 30

The Vietnam Wall, Washington D.C.

Experiencing the Vietnam Wall is a literal descent into the hell and human cost of war for as I descended from ground level into the depths of the war memorial dwarfed by the magnitude of the 58,256 names scripted on its black granite wall ~ I was profoundly filled with sadness but as I eventually ascended into the daylight it suddenly became a peace memorial and a heartfelt reaffirmation that war is no longer an option in a world that is being forced to unite or perish: Allen L Roland

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a national memorial in Washington, D.C. It honors U.S. service members of the U.S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, service members who died in service in Vietnam/South East Asia, and those service members who were unaccounted for (Missing In Action) during the War.

The black granite memorial was completed in 1982 and receives around 3 million visitors each year. The Memorial Wall was designed by the American architect Maya Lin.

In the early 1990’s, while in Washington, DC for a speaking engagement, I visited the site but nothing could emotionally prepare me for a visit to the memorial or the shock that this war and its incredible human sacrifice was politically motivated and based on lies. Just like during the war, the names of the dead slowly appeared on my left as I descended the gentle slope to the main wall and then suddenly the scope of the carnage overcame me as scores of names became hundreds and then thousands and finally over 50,000 and the brutal truth of this unnecessary tragedy overwhelmed me as I slowly and somberly climbed back into the sunlight.

Only a musical tribute can possibly capture the emotion and feelings evoked by experiencing the Vietnam Wall ~ so here’s The Wall Song. 5 minute video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y64zTRlrmo

Maya Lin’s own comments about her creation are worth noting;

“I deliberately did not read anything about the Vietnam War because I felt the politics of the war eclipsed what happened to the veterans. The politics were irrelevant to what this memorial was.

“A lot of my works deal with a passage, which is about time. I don't see anything that I do as a static object in space. It has to exist as a journey in time.”

“I try to give people a different way of looking at their surroundings. That's art to me.”

“The definition of a modern approach to war is the acknowledgement of individual lives lost.

“ When  I was building the Vietnam Memorial, I never once asked the veterans what it was like in the war, because from my point of view, you don't pry into other people's business. “

“You have to let the viewers come away with their own conclusions. If you dictate what they should think, you've lost it.”

Read more Lin quotes at ~

Maya Lin was interviewed in San Francisco on October 24, 2008 and discussed the meaning behind her once controversial design for the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial and her desire to go beyond Vietnam and make a universal statement about the moral futility of war itself. Two minute video ~

Lin more than succeeded in her effort to create something that would both transcend Vietnam and yet touch and reconcile our injured soul by returning to nature.

Want to visit the Virtual Wall ~ First click on a state. When it opens, scroll down to the city and the names will appear. Then click on their names. It should show you a picture of the person, or at least their bio and medals. This really is an amazing web site. Someone spent a lot of time and effort to create it.  http://www.virtualwall.org/iStates.htm

Let us hope that deep black scar in the earth that represents the wound the Vietnam war left on the American soul is not a prelude to Lin’s thoughts regarding a possible monument to World War III ~

“I started studying what the nature of a monument is and what a monument should be. And for the World War III memorial I designed a futile, almost terrifying passage that ends nowhere.”

Amen!

MARTIN LUTHER KING / THE VOICE THAT CAN'T BE SILENCED

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. / Born Jan. 15, 1929
Assassinated April 4, 1968

The voice of Martin Luther King will never be silenced because his words resonate with the truth that love and the urge to unite lie deepest within us regardless of our feeble and ignoble attempts to justify preemptive wars and man’s ongoing inhumanity to man: Allen L Roland

The Pentagon sank to a new low this week in their attempt to sell the Afghanistan War to the American people. At their Martin Luther King, Jr., Day observance, a Pentagon official actually claimed that if King were alive today, he might support violence and the ongoing war and occupation of Afghanistan.

This is simply not true. As shown in this video, Dr. King could not have been more clear in his 1967 speech denouncing the Vietnam War ~ which most certainly would apply to today’s wars and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan:

"A true revolution of values will lay hand on the world order and say of war ~ this way of settling differences is not just ~ a nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."

Here are more of King’s words which still call us to unite and love one another versus destroy each other;

The ultimate weakness of violence
is that it is a descending spiral,
begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy.
Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.
Through violence you may murder the liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.

T
hrough violence you murder the hater,

but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate....
Returning violence for violence multiples violence,
adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr

Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.
~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars... Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

Nonviolence is the answer to the crucial political and moral questions of our time; the need for mankind to overcome oppression and violence without resorting to oppression and violence. Mankind must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.

~ Martin Luther King Jr

A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

I am convinced that love is the most durable power in the world. It is not an expression of impractical idealism, but of practical realism. Far from being the pious injunction of a Utopian dreamer, love is an absolute necessity for the survival of our civilization. To return hate for hate does nothing but intensify the existence of evil in the universe. Someone must have sense enough and religion enough to cut off the chain of hate and evil, and this can only be done through love.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr., 1957

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.
~ Martin Luther King Jr

There are others who have and are still heeding the path of the heart which is, in essence, the innate propensity to unite and complete ourselves.

Nonviolence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our very being.
~ Mahatma Gandhi, 1948

The basic underlying and uniting force of the universe is a psychic energy field of love and soul consciousness ( the
Unified Field ) which lies not only beyond time and space but also beneath our deepest fears ~ and whose principle is the universal urge to unite.

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH / HAPPY NEW YEAR

Let there be peace on earth in 2011. It may well be wishful thinking but it must become a mindset of humanity or at least a constantly stated affirmation if this miracle is to happen. Since God is love, we are all co-creators of a loving plan in action (God). By replacing an externalized God with an internalized love ~ we just might all become brothers and pull it off this lifetime: Allen L Roland

LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH / VINCE GILL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPH4LRASWbo

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step i take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

(child)
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With god as our father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
